Rocker arm is in fact a double armed lever which is used for changing force direction from push rod to push the valve. The working surface of rocker arm ends, which is generally cylindrical, can roll along valve stem end surfaces when rocker arm swings, in this way the force between can interact along valve axis as far as possible.
Rocker arm is divided into steel rocker arm and aluminum alloy rocker arm based on its basis material.
Rocker arm is also classified into centerline support type and end support type. For centerline support type, the rocker arm is used together with the rocker shaft and there’s one fixed center of rotation during working; for end support type, the rocker arm is used without rocker shaft, but positioned laterally and supported by three points.
It is classified into mechanical rocker arm and hydraulic rocker arm based on its usage. Valve clearance for mechanical rocker arm is adjusted by adjusting bolts; while the valve clearance for hydraulic rocker arm is not reserved after combined use of hydraulic rocker arm and hydraulic lifter, in this way the impact noise is reduced when engine works.
